Imagine with me for a moment the void and the blackness before

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ NIV)

A darkness so deep that only God could see and then God spoke, a sound like a Big Bang,

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ NIV)

The first creation in the creation of the heavens and the earth was LIGHT.

God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ NIV)

But the darkness refused to obey God and through deception entered into God’s good creation to try to destroy the light. And human beings chose to play in the darkness because God gave us free will.

God chose a man, Abram and a woman Sarah and made their descendants bearers of the light carved in stone by God’s own hand, the Law…That light was a dim foretelling of the true light and the darkness worked to destroy it through disobedience and legalism.

And so God entered the world in human form

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭4-5‬ NIV)

As the One True Light.

The One True Light completed his time on earth on the cross to save those who would believe from the darkness. He rose from the tomb and ascended into heaven, but he sent light to all of his followers. Not to reflect his light like the moon reflects the light of the sun, no he placed his light inside our defective, broken, cracked selves.

He passed his Light to vessels of cracked clay, like me

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭14-16‬ NIV)

I am not a reflection of his light; I am a bearer of his light.

He has inscribed his laws on my heart and given me light to follow him through other believers, through prayer, and through scripture.

I am thankful and humbled and hopefully a good caretaker of the light of the World. Not my light for I have none, but his light lives within me. Thank you Jesus.
